Built-in tools can be very good, but ColorGradr is designed in a completely different way with different algorithms. You can try both tools in a project to see which gives the a result you prefer, particularly with difficult footage where ColorGradr often excels.
Right now ColorGradr works in BlackMagic DaVinci Resolve, Magix Vegas and Grass Valley Edius and Rio. Both Mac and PC are supported. As ColorGradr is an OFX plugin it may work in other software that supports this format of plugins, you can test via a trial, let us know if you have issues!
.ccc or .cdl files are a universal file format for exchanging color information between different grading systems. ColorGradr allows you to export either .ccc .cdl or .cc files by doing a Fix, then pressing the ‘Export ccc’ button. This means creative flexibility and realtime performance is possible outside our plugin. You can then choose the extension your software supports (usually .ccc) and then dragging that file in to the area of your software used for grading. In DaVinci Resolve you drop the .ccc exported file in to the Gallery window, then drag it on to the main viewer monitor, your grading controls will then adopt the Fix from the ColorGradr plugin and you can get creative. In Rio, select the CDL process in MLT FX, then drop the .ccc file on to the pane where the CDL numbers are displayed, this will then populate the CDL numbers from your Fix, you can then use the Colour pane to do more creative corrections.
Please note this file format is not supported in Vegas or Edius, you will have to use the exported .cube files.

Any footage that has a burnt in crop (black bars) or if there is image artefacts (damage) such as brightly colored pixels, even if small, can affect the quality of the ColorGradr Fix. You may find that if there is a very colourful object, or clothing, the result may be less successful. A good trick is to zoom in to any footage to check for any issues, particularly in news gathering, where lines of video can be damaged via satellite transfers. A workaround to get a better Fix is to zoom in to the material, avoiding the area with the artefacts or bright object/clothing, perform the Fix, and then remove the zoom. This will give our complex algorithms a better chance of a successful Fix.
If you find your original order email, you’ll be able to request a license adjustment via the ‘Manage my order’ link in the email. Your license key is locked to your own email address and machine’s hardware configuration and will need to be reset (you can do this up to two times a year, but not during a trial). If you have any issues you can always drop us an email at support@colorgradr.com
You can find our refund policy at the bottom of this website. We hope that by offering a 30 day free trial you can check ColorGradr does what you need it to 🙂
Yes you can. In our tutorial videos we show you how to use our specially designed cubes, but also others you may have purchased from third party companies or your own (there is a ‘Cubes’ folder inside our Program folder or open Package Contents on a Mac). Alternatively you can always use Cubes/LUTs in the main color area of your software, don’t forget you can export the Fix as interactive grading settings via the Fix ccc button! .ccc / .cdl files can be used in the grading area of Resolve and Quantel Rio, as well as various other systems.
We do have a Premiere version, but its not shipping at this time. As a quick workaround, you can install the free version of Resolve, install ColorGradr, import any challenging material in to it, then export a .cdl for use in Premiere. Adobe’s Lumetri Color effect supports the .cdl extension. Just add a Lumetri Color to a segment, twirl open Basic Correction, select “Browse” under “Import LUT” and choose your .cdl file. Please note, unlike Resolve, you can not see the color values of the ColorGradr Fix for further adjustment.
We’re very sorry, but in a rush to get ColorGradr to market we prioritised Resolve and Premiere, if enough demand is forthcoming we will of course work on an FCP X conversion of the code.
